How many more social networking sites can we stand?

Newest on the scene in Europe is Piczo, joining MySpace, Bebo and god knows what else at the teen end of the market. But how many are sustainable ? With giants such as NewsCorp on the block you must question how many will survive, but maybe in a teen fad environment that's the whole point of not being MySpace. What hapens when it's not cool, becomes invaded by adults or over commercialised? Chris Seth obviously thinks the futures bright for Piczo, having left the comparitive safety of Richmond Events to be MD of Piczo in Europe.

War on Google

The European Publishers Council have announced their intention to take Google to task, adding tags so that publishers can better control the content that Google offers on the web.

Whilst many publishers will support this move, pointing to their investment in content, journalists, distribution and brand, it does point at a protectionist attitude and one of double standards.

Without doubt these self same publishers want to be highly ranked on Google and then hope people will come to their site, possibly paying a subscription. Additionally the whole senario of new tagging means that once again publishers will be creating more work for themselves adding and creating tags.

The fastest growing medium

Out-of-home media is apparently growing faster than online. Great article from MediaPost about the growth of networks....

Old media vs new media

Today Aple launches a service to enable you to watch movies on your iPod, but surely the more interesting story here is how they are more closely aligning iMac computers to TV's for a movie download service.

Whether people do want to watch TV or movies on iPODs or mobile phones is still far from proven - even amongst the young.

And perhaps this is why new media isn't killing old. The FT reports on how private equity firm Veronis Suhler Stevenson are reporting growth from companies such as Time Warner, News Corp etc.
