Clear sign of the power of winning a major add account. Ad agency Wieden & Kennedy have announced plans to open an Indian office in the light of winning the global Nokia account. It's interesting to see how the distribution model is shaping up. Variety reports how the major TV networks are abandoning their own ideas for broadband TV stations, accepting that online viewing works better by following the viewer - for example to established portals, social networking sites etc - rather than trying to drive viewers to new sites, no matter how good. This isn't really a surprise and isn't fundamentally new, for example with traditional distribution networks, film producers worked with existing cinema chains, they didn't launch their own! Finally, the Guardian published their annual top 100 of UK media people. Not too many surprises at the top with a Schmidt, Murdoch, Thompson 1-2-3, but further down the list there seems to be some confusion as to who are truly influential and who are simply popular, for example the inclusion of David Tennant. In fairness to the Guardian they try to justify their move, but surely what they should be doing is maintaining the focus of the core list and then adding some supplementary listings. Never the less, a good read...
